Popova Kula vinery cellar and the grape vine plantations are located on the south slope of Veliko Brdo, west from the wonderful town of Demir Kapija, in the vicinity of the E-75 motorway.
Demir Kapija valley covers the south part of the Tikves vineyard sub-region, which is part of the Povardarie region.
The oldest archaeological findings prove that people in this region have been growing vineyards and have been making wine since the 13 century B.C.
Demir Kapija region is characterized by excellent climatic and soil conditions for growing grape vines.
The kingdom of Aleksandar Karagjorgjevikj covered the territory of present Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia, including the Adriatic Sea coast and the Pannonian Plain. Hence, king Alexandar had numerous possibilities as to selection of locations for planting grape vines all over his kingdom.
However, following the recommendations of his wise counselors, he made the right decision and selected the micro-region of Demir Kapija as an ideal location for his vine plantations. This is the same place where our vinery cellar is located.
