Land
The Republic of Macedonia is a mountainous country since even 80% of it’s accounts for mountains, while 20% accounts for planes. Twelve out of forty mountains are higher than 2000 metres. There is no other country in Europe that has such a big number of individual mountain entities and mountain massifs in respect to the area covered. All these mountains have about 260 interesting and very impressive peaks, eighty-five of them exceeding 2000 m. Due to the climate itself and their height, the Macedonian mountains abound with snow during the winter period, resulting in creation of glacial lakes (Pelisterski Ochi) and waterfalls (Korab Waterfall) during the spring and the summer. In addition, our mountains are known for their unique flora and fauna wherefore there are three national parks in the Republic of Macedonia (Pelister, Galichica and Mavrovo). Such a configuration of the terrain makes Macedonia a place of many hiking and biking paths that satisfy the most delicate tastes. On the wonderful slopes of the Bistra mountain, you can enjoy the beautiful landscape by riding a horse.
Besides the beautiful mountains, there are a number of rock climbing localities in Macedonia, located in Matka, Demir Kapija, Kadina river, Mavrovo, etc. These localities offer a great variety of directions for both experienced and recreational climbers. During spring, summer and early autumn, the artificial rock of the “Karposh” Sport Rock-Climbing Stadium located on the very quay of the Vardar river offers a possibility of enjoining the rising of adrenaline during climbing to all enthusiasts.
Water
In addition to the wonderful mountains, Macedonia also abounds with many natural and artificial lakes suitable for water sports. Certainly, the most distinguished is the Ohrid lake which is considered one of the clearest lakes suitable for diving. The favorable position and the fact that it is one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe make it a centre of yachting in Macedonia, thus giving a great opportunity to travelers for sailing. The artificial lake in the Matka Canyon is certainly the most renowned and excellent for kayaking. In its immediate vicinity, there is a path for kayaking through turbulent waters where many domestic and international competitions take place.
Air
The favorable climatic conditions make Macedonia a perfect country for paragliding, especially in the town of Krushevo. Krushevo is located in the Middle – Southwest part of the country, in the biggest valley called Pelagonia, which is surrounded by three independent mountain chains to the North, East and West and is open to Greece to the South that makes it reflect mild influence by the Mediterranean climatic zone.
The region becomes warm quite early in the year, with an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius even in May. The end of June is the period of the year with the highest temperature differences in between the day and the night, providing continuous thermal activity starting around 10AM and finishing around 5PM.The weather is amazing for paragliding right until the end of September, with good thermal conditions. It often happens that October and November are sunny and appropriate for flying. Wind is almost never a problem, and normally, there is rain only in a certain period of time in the spring. The summer is very dry with hardly any showers. According to the statistics, we have 300 sunny days throughout the whole year.
